During the Venetian occupation in the 17th century, Tolo was used as a port, which contributed to the area’s development. Following the Greek War of Independence, the village became home to many Greek refugees, mainly from Crete, who settled here and helped shape the Tolo of today.

Romvi Island
Romvi is the biggest island in Tolo bay and is a great destination for a day of exploration with a boat rental in Tolo. There are ruins of ancient walls built during the Byzantine era, fortifications made to avoid sea invaders and protect the population from raids.
Koronisi Island
Koronisi is a gem in the bay of Tolo, giving the place a gorgeous view and a beautiful atmosphere especially when it's lit at night. Koronisi is home to a small church dedicated to the 12 Apostles and is the perfect place for a wedding in Tolo or a baptism.
Daskalio Island
Daskalio island is right behind Romvi and hidden from Tolo beach, but also a very graphic and beautiful islet with a wonderful pebble beach. Adorned with a small church Dedicated to 'Zoodocho Pigi' the Life-Giving Spring it is ideal for a day on the beach.
